Food photography for Bolt Deli

This food photoshoot came about as a result of a recommendation to the owner of Bolt Deli in Belfast. Situated among a sea of cars in Boucher Road, on my first visit, I didn’t know what to expect. Seeing Bolt being such a busy and vibrant deli, gave me the impression that the food must be great. The queue for entry was a demonstration that diners are prepared to wait for their lunch.

On my first shoot with Bolt, I was delighted to work with talented chef James. When photographing food, I work with the chefs on the food styling for every dish. I was delighted that James had a great eye for styling and we worked well together to showcase their delicious American-style diner food.

The theme of the restaurant is quite rustic with wood, brass and warm leather colours. By contrast, they were also keen to incorporate the turquoise colours of their serving crockery. As you can see below in some of my photographs, all of the client's food photography requirements were taken into consideration.

When photographing food, I consider that the client would be using their photographs in many different formats, for social media, website and print. I therefore always make sure landscape and portrait versions are taken and also keep in mind the possibility of the photograph being cropped to square - so much to think about.

It was a long day of shooting, but I loved working with the great team at Bolt. Since this photo shoot, we have been back, photographing their drive-in food, but that is another story...
