Food Photography for ‘Feed Yourself Fitter’ TV show

Last September I was commissioned by TV Third Studios for the photography and some videography of a new food TV show commissioned by the BBC and hosted by Stephen Nolan.

The show, which is called ‘Feed Yourself Fitter’, is now live and all episodes can be seen on iPlayer Northern Ireland. The idea behind the show is to teach people who have had issues with food to cook and eat healthier food and hopefully loose some weight.

I was delighted to have the opportunity to photograph food cooked by the amazing chefs Michael Dean, Alex Greene, Paula McIntyre, Suzie Lee, Shauna Froydenlund and Brian McCann.

My role in the show was photographing and videoing the ingredients and the dishes created by each chef - Master Chef style. I have to say, it was a dream job. I loved watching the masters at work and all the dishes were a delight to photograph. Most of the time, the photography and the videography had to be done very quickly as they needed to be passed on to the invited guests on the show for further filming. Normally with my food photography I would do much of the styling. However, since the dishes were pretty much perfect and didn’t need much styling from me, I managed to complete my role within the time available.

Being a food photographer, I have a wide range of props such as gorgeous crockery and other utensils which I took with me to the set. I was so glad I had these, as they were constantly being used and so I was able to have just a small influence on the styling.

The shoot time was very pressurised. So, to put me ahead with ingredients photography, for most of the shoots, I had raided my kitchen cupboards and also my veg garden, and taken fresh ingredients to the set with me. On one or two occasions these ingredients saved the day as the chefs had not been able to find them in the shops!!!!

For me going above and beyond my duty as a food photographer is par for the course. Knowing that Alex Greene was going to cook tacos, I asked my husband who is a furniture designer, to design and make a taco holder. He did a great job. It held Alex's gorgeous tacos beautifully.

Oh, before I forget… I loved being a part of a brilliant team. Everyone on the set was amazing. Although we all worked super hard, the atmosphere on the set was brilliant and it was a delight to be a part of it.

Some still shots of the show are shown below. OK….. you can salivate if you wish!
