Food Photography tips and tricks

Sharing food photography project that I have been involved with and providing you with some tips and tricks for photographing similar projects. Universal meat company has become one of my regular photography clients and the brief to me was to style and photograph the products the way they look on the consumer’s table. They use these photographs for their packaging as well as other advertising. When you are given a frozen piece of meat you have a blank canvas, it is very different than when you are photographing for a chef and you are presented with a gorgeous plate of food, there is a certain amount of interaction goes on there. However, working with a frozen piece of meat is very different and it is s blank canvas.you would have to think when the piece of meat is cooked, what background, props, textures and colours you are going to use. How you are going to compose it that it looks generous, or perhaps you would just want to represent a dinner party. Another thing to keep in mind is these products are very similar, therefore you need to make them different in terms of foreground, background and the use of colours so that the consumers can distinguish between different products.
Additionally, you have to think about your lighting. Meat is a difficult subject to photograph and lots of care is required for photographing meat.
Photographing this sort of products is very tiring but very rewarding and when you think with what you have started with and how the product looks at the end it makes the job in hand very rewarding.

If you are a manufacturer, you write recipe books, or you are involved in any type of food production, please contact me for your next photoshoot requirements.
